Thomas Clausi expresses gratitude to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Italian government for their support during his detention in Morocco

Milano, ITALY, 10th August 2023 – Thomas Clausi, an Italian national and entrepreneur, expresses sincere gratitude to the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, the Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, and the Italian Consul General in Morocco, Mr. Marco Silvi, for their unwavering support and continuous efforts that led to his release during the entire period of detention.

Known for his entrepreneurial achievements and the successful establishment of Africa Pay, a neo-bank in Africa providing 15,000 Jobs Across 20 African Countries, this young entrepreneur was suddenly incarcerated in Morocco for using bitcoin, despite the fact that cryptocurrency usage was not prohibited in the country at the time, exposing him to a potential prison sentence of up to 10 years.

In addition to his detention, he also faced a fine of 3.4 million euros. Thanks to the relentless commitment of the Italian government, whom he warmly thanks, he managed to endure. 

“It is primarily thanks to the support of the Italian government and my fiancée that I was able to persevere and withstand the period of detention,” he revealed, further stating that he takes pride in his Italian identity, observing firsthand the promptness and dedication with which the Italian government stands by its citizens.
