LONDON, UK. November 7th 2025 – After a celebrated premiere at Odyssey 2025 in September, the Hong Kong documentary Four Trails begins its UK cinema release on 6 November, screening nationwide across Everyman, Picturehouse, ODEON and The Light cinemas. With over 100 screenings scheduled in its first two weeks, this marks one of the widest cinema releases for a Hong Kong independent documentary in the UK to date.

A box office phenomenon in Asia and a word-of-mouth success, Four Trails unveils a Hong Kong few have seen — where skyscrapers fade into mountain ridges, and the city’s pulse shifts from the rush of streets to the rhythm of human endurance.

The film follows a small group of ultra-runners attempting Hong Kong’s most extreme endurance challenge: 298 kilometres across four iconic trails, climbing more than 14,500 metres in under 72 hours. With a finish rate of just 6%, every successful runner becomes part of local legend.

Directed by Robin Lee, a Hong Kong-born British filmmaker, Four Trails marks his feature debut and has already earned him the Best New Director Award at the Hong Kong Film Awards. The film transcends the boundaries of sports documentary, becoming a meditation on endurance, identity, and belonging — a cinematic act of devotion to Hong Kong’s land and people.

Following its critically acclaimed world tour as part of Hong Kong International Film Festival’s “Making Waves” global showcase, Four Trails continues to attract international recognition. The documentary will next appear at both the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival and Xiamen’s Golden Rooster International Film Festival, reinforcing its growing reputation as one of Hong Kong’s most powerful new works of non-fiction cinema.

UK distribution is led by Hiu Man Chan, Senior Lecturer in Creative Industries at De Montfort University, through her UKRI-funded research and spin-out social enterprise, which champions talent and cultural exchange through film.

With Four Trails, Hong Kong’s mountains take centre stage — and its spirit runs free.
