ICON Projects Completes Historic Fit-Out of The OId Law Library in Manchester
ICON Projects, in partnership with Solus Ceramics, is delighted to announce the opening of the new studio showroom at 14 Kennedy Street, Manchester. Serving as a showroom, a headquarters and an entertainment space, it occupies the ground floor and basement of the former Manchester Law Library, which was designed by Thomas Hartas and completed in 1885.
The Old Law Library in Manchester occupies a prime position on Kennedy Street, with its imposing façade, which commands respect and admiration from any passers-by.

Ashley Kemp, Operations Director at ICON, says, “The pictures speak for themselves. The whole space screams detail from the moment the door opens. To quote the Incognito design team, it’s rare that the finished space looks perfectly like the initial CGI imagery, and yet, in this case, it did just that. That is a testament to the level of detail the ICON team went into during design team meetings and supply chain engagement.

The bespoke joinery is a stand-out here and must be seen to be believed. Every item is custom-built, painstakingly detailed, and coordinated between trades. The lighting is also incredibly sophisticated – fully programmable via iPad, it adds unique functionality when the space is in its showroom, HQ, or entertainment arrangement.”

Working collaboratively with leading Manchester-based designers Incognito and the creative team at Solus, the objective was to design and build a functional interior that was absolutely worthy of the building’s stunning history and architecture.

Ryan Bennett, managing director of Solus, discusses the project, “We’re delighted to be in Manchester, a city that shares our scale of ambition. A great team effort has gone into delivering the opening of the Manchester Studio, and we’re happy to welcome the design community to our new space. The Venetian Gothic facade really sets a dramatic stage for our latest endeavour. Please do drop in for a cup of something.”

Solus Creative Director Sam Frith further explains the intricacies involved, “The Grade II* listed status of the building meant that this was a sensitive fit-out, requiring a high degree of skill, accuracy, and attentiveness. ICON has been amazing to work with and has brought the outstanding design from Incognito and Artin Light to life.”
