London, UK. January 15th 2026 – Award-winning video production company BearJam produced a deepfake commissioned by Surrey Police to raise awareness of the ongoing threat of deepfakes in the UK, and warns that 2026 could see the problem intensify further.
For Fraud Awareness Week in November, BearJam partnered with Surrey OPCC (Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner) to generate a deepfake of Police and Crime Commissioner, Lisa Townsend, to raise awareness for the UK’s most common crime: fraud.
The video, created as part of the Question EVERYTHING campaign, is available here.
Trey Farley, Creative Director at BearJam, said the deepfake was created to “show people how believable it can be and to raise awareness about the capabilities of AI and deepfakes, so they should always be wary.”
More details on how the campaign was created can be found here.
Shared in the same blog post, BearJam have used AI to educate, not mislead, and they’ve helped spark meaningful conversations about online safety, digital trust, and fraud prevention.
As pioneers in the artificial intelligence video production space, James Hilditch, Founder and Creative Director at BearJam, says 2026 may hold new challenges as AI becomes more advanced and widely accessible.
“AI is transforming video production in brilliant ways, but the same capabilities that help creators move faster can also be exploited by bad actors. The uncomfortable truth is that deepfakes are getting good, not just good enough for a prank or gimmick, but good enough to persuade, pressure and potentially defraud people at scale. That’s why we were so pleased to work on this video: to bring the threat into focus and offer a practical reminder that, these days, realism doesn’t equal truth.
As AI tools become more accessible, verification needs to become a habit, not an afterthought. If something feels urgent, emotional or out of character, slow it down. Cross-check it. Call the person or organisation using a trusted number.
We use these tools every day, and we’re excited by what they enable creatively, but we also feel a responsibility to be honest about how they can be misused.”
As a video production company using the same tools and techniques often maliciously used to create AI-generated video, BearJam were excited to help create awareness around the threat of deepfakes, educate, and urge viewers to verify their videos throughout 2026.
