Mountmellick, Ireland – June 2025 – In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the death of the legendary Sir Christopher Lee, Ireland based composer and producer Damien Cain has re-released a long-lost musical treasure: their powerful 2006 collaboration, Elenore.
The track, originally recorded at the renowned Townhouse Studios in London, is a dramatic philharmonic crossover piece – combining classical orchestration with emotional resonance and cinematic intensity. Based on Edgar Allan Poe’s iconic poem The Raven, Elenore reimagines the classic tale of grief, longing, and madness through a lush musical soundscape and the commanding voice of Lee himself.
Accompanied by Das Berliner Filmorchester under the baton of conductor Christian Hagitte, the composition features sweeping strings, dark harmonies, and theatrical phrasing that draws from both classical music and contemporary film scoring. It is a haunting, immersive experience that transcends traditional genre boundaries.
“Elenore is not just a song – it’s a theatrical experience,” says Damien Cain. “Sir Christopher brought a rare gravity to every word. His performance is like a monologue from another world – part lament, part prophecy. The fact that this recording lay dormant for so long only adds to its mystique.”
A Forgotten Gem Reborn
Though recorded nearly two decades ago, Elenore was never released to an international audience. After being shelved during post-production, the track languished in archive drives – a forgotten artifact of two unique artistic voices meeting at the height of their expressive powers.
With 2025 marking a decade since Lee’s passing, Cain revisited the original masters and completed the production with a fresh mix and remaster, ensuring that the full richness of the performance could finally be heard. The re-release serves as both a tribute and a resurrection – giving audiences a rare glimpse of Lee’s deep connection to literary drama and musical interpretation.
Sir Christopher Lee – More Than a Screen Legend
Sir Christopher Lee (1922–2015) is best remembered for his prolific acting career, with iconic roles ranging from Count Dracula in the Hammer Horror films to Saruman in The Lord of the Rings and Count Dooku in Star Wars. Yet Lee’s creative legacy extended far beyond the silver screen.
In the later years of his life, Lee pursued a surprisingly bold music career. His work included spoken-word performances, operatic baritone recordings, and collaborations with symphonic and heavy metal bands – notably with Rhapsody of Fire and on his own concept albums Charlemagne: By the Sword and the Cross and Charlemagne: The Omens of Death. His distinctive voice lent itself naturally to narrative music, imbuing songs with gravitas and theatrical flair.
Elenore stands apart from Lee’s other musical ventures for its literary foundation and classical approach. Rather than focusing on character or genre, the track explores pure emotion – a fusion of gothic poetry and orchestral storytelling, filtered through Lee’s profound interpretive abilities.
Damien Cain – Bridging Eras, Telling Stories
Damien Cain is a German composer living in Ireland, singer, songwriter and music producer known for blending classical instrumentation with modern narrative structures. With a background in theatre and audio dramas, Cain has composed gothic and rock music, concept albums, and experimental pieces that cross genres and disciplines.
Cain’s music often explores forgotten voices, historical themes, and emotional transformation – elements clearly present in Elenore. His meticulous attention to lyrical detail and sonic atmosphere is what led him to approach Sir Christopher Lee with the idea back in 2005.
“I wanted to take a poem people thought they knew and make them feel it differently,” Cain reflects. “Christopher instinctively understood that. He didn’t perform The Raven – he became the voice inside it.”
Cain is currently finalizing a new studio album, scheduled for release in autumn 2025, which will continue his exploration of orchestral storytelling.
