- This summer sees increased demand for language tutors as schools break up
- Spanish is the language most in demand for Brits, closely followed by French, mirroring top holiday destinations
- Demand for language tutors in summer months doubles compared to November
LONDON, 27th June 2025. FindTutors, a leading UK private tuition service by GoStudent, has revealed a significant increase in demand for language tutors over the summer months, as Brits brush up on their Spanish, French and other languages ahead of the holiday season.
As the school year draws to a close, parents and students are increasingly seeing language learning as a priority according to internal data from FindTutors. Demand for language tutors, which in some winter months makes up around 15% of all enquiries, more than doubles in June, July and August.
The data also indicates that many students are using upcoming holidays as inspiration for their language learning. The most in demand language, Spanish, which makes up 45% of all language enquiries, is also the UK’s top holiday destination. French, which represents 32% of language tutor demand, is similarly the second most popular destination.
The most in-demand tutors are for languages in
- Spanish – 45%
- French – 32%
- German – 13%
- Italian – 9%
This increase in demand over summer, is, however, contrary to a general trend of falling importance given to language learning.
A 2023 report by the British Council indicates that just 20% of first year secondary school students planned to study a language at GCSE level, with many feeling that it is not important to success in their careers after leaving school.
Albert Clemente, CEO at FindTutors, comments:
“Learning a language is one of the most rewarding things you can do, whether for work or just for an upcoming trip. There’s nothing better than finding you can connect with someone in their language, and even a few basic phrases can be incredibly useful when visiting somewhere new.”
“Kids have a remarkable ability to learn languages but with the rise of AI and automatic translation tools, these skills seem to be falling down the priority list. Now is a great time to try to reverse this trend, and this summer represents a fantastic chance to learn a language, enhancing not only career prospects but undoubtedly overall quality of life too.”
“The data shows that when thinking about which language to learn it’s often easiest to go with the one that you are likely to need in the short term. As immersion is one of the best ways to passively learn a language, this exposure can turn lessons into a lifelong skill. FindTutors helps thousands of students every month to discover their passion for languages and also get a head start on the return to school in September.”
