London, UK. 1st September 2025 – Most business books focus on challenges faced by large corporations, but a new title from serial entrepreneur Perry Burns takes a refreshingly practical look at the real-world struggles of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
“101 Things I Wish I Had Known Before I Started My Business” will be formally launched on 1st September 2025 and is already being described as a practical “first-aid kit” for entrepreneurs. Drawing on Perry’s 50 years of hands-on experience, the book is packed with lessons, anecdotes, and “war stories” that reflect the day-to-day challenges of running a small business—many of which resonate across larger organisations and other sectors too.
In true entrepreneurial fashion, the book’s journey to publication included an unexpected hiccup. A communications glitch with the publisher meant that the wrong file was sent to the printers, resulting in a few typos in the first print. Perry has turned this into a teachable moment, introducing his own SAFETY process (explained in the book, page 203). As he quips: “Readers of the first edition have been the lucky recipients of the ‘E’ & ‘T’ parts of the process.”
Despite this, Perry is confident that all major errors have now been resolved—and is inviting readers to flag any they might still find. “It’s all part of the entrepreneurial journey,” he adds with a smile.
The book spans a wide range of topics from finance and leadership to the impact of AI and SEO on modern business. It blends practical checklists and strategies with humour, cartoons, and QR codes linking to further resources. Perry is also inviting readers to contribute their own “war stories” for possible inclusion in the next edition.
Perry Burns began his career selling cash registers door-to-door before moving into computers and software for the retail industry. He went on to work across technology, finance, professional services, and even electric motorbikes. Promoted to his first board position in 1985, Perry has since served on the boards of major industry bodies including UK Finance and the Motorcycle Industry Association. Today, he continues to champion vision, strategy, and communication as the cornerstones of business success—while embracing the opportunities offered by new technologies.
