LONDON, UK. October 22nd, 2025 – – This October and November, Mexican restaurant chain Mestizo is inviting Londoners to immerse themselves in one of Mexico’s most meaningful traditions: Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead).
Across both Mestizo Chelsea and Camden locations, guests will discover colourful altars, authentic rituals, exclusive menus, and unique events designed to bring the spirit of this tradition to London.
In Mexico, Día de Muertos is a time to remember and celebrate loved ones who have passed away. The centrepiece of the celebration is the altar, decorated with flowers, candles, food, and photographs. Each element carries a symbolic meaning: cempasuchil (Mexico’s typical flower) guides the spirits back, candles light their path, and their favourite food welcomes them home.
Mestizo will open its doors to the community, inviting guests to bring photographs of their late-loved ones so they can be part of the altars. These altars will be displayed throughout the celebrations as a tribute to life, memory, and togetherness.
Mestizo has prepared a calendar of events, each bringing a different aspect of Día de Muertos to life.
On Thursday 30th October, the Annual Costume Party will take place at Downstairs Camden – a vibrant costume party full of music, dancing, and Mexican flair.
On Friday 31st October, “Pa’ tu Calaverita” will be held from 4pm-7pm at Mestizo Market. Inspired by the Mexican tradition of children asking for sweets during Día de Muertos, guests will be able to create their own “calaverita” bag by filling it with a variety of traditional Mexican sweets and treats for a fixed price.
Then on Saturday 1st November, Night of Catrinas will take place at Mestizo Chelsea from 7pm. This is an elegant evening with a special curated menu and face painting for guests who wish to transform into iconic Mexican Catrinas.
Finally on Sunday 2nd November, there will be a Día de Muertos Brunch at Mestizo Chelsea & Camden, celebrating the flavours and colours of this unique holiday.
Another addition to Mestizo’s Día de Muertos calendar is the Semana de Moles (Week of Moles) from 29th October to 2nd November. Mole is one of Mexico’s most emblematic dishes –  a rich and complex sauce often described as a true masterpiece of Mexican cuisine. Made from a blend of spices, chiles, seeds, and sometimes chocolate, mole can take several days to prepare. Each region of Mexico has its own version, from the deep, chocolatey mole poblano to the nutty encacahuatado.
Alexis Sanchez, who runs both Mestizo restaurants, said: “We are thrilled to announce Mestizo’s calendar of celebrations, from costume parties and Catrinas to a special Día de Muertos brunch.
“At Mestizo, the Día de Muertos isn’t just a celebration; it’s a moment of connection, memory and respect. This year in London, we invite guests to enjoy our special events and bring their own beloved photos or mementos to join our community of remembrance.”
Mestizo will offer Londoners the chance to experience a curated tasting of different moles, showcasing the diversity and artistry of this exceptional dish. It’s an opportunity to savour one of Mexico’s greatest culinary treasures, a true celebration of flavour and heritage.
