Expert tips and insights for mastering your SEO from an industry expert.
In the constantly evolving world of SEO, staying ahead of the curve can feel overwhelming.
To shed light on the strategies, trends, and best practices that really work, we spoke with an industry expert. In this exclusive Q&A, they share actionable tips, real-world insights, and advice for marketers, business owners, and anyone looking to improve their website’s search performance.
1. What are the common misconceptions when it comes to SEO
Two of the biggest misconceptions are E-E-A-T and “Content is King”—right now, that is. Firstly, Google doesn’t directly measure E-E-A-T.
For example, ask yourself how simple it would be to simply add the expert in the field as the author of your website, take UVPC windows, for example. Adding “Waldo Semon” (The creator of UVPC windows) as the author would immediately suggest your website knows something about UVPC windows, and that’s why E-E-A-T isn’t a directly measured ranking factor.
As we move on to the very common “Content is King” – Content is undeniably crucial for your SEO, however, it undermines the vastness of the algorithm and how many ranking factors your website undergoes. Many ignore Off Page SEO, Technical SEO, and neglect the clustering or complex content strategies that go around simply the amount or the type of content you have on your website. As we work in some of the most competitive industries on the planet, we do not agree that “Content is King”
2. What has the biggest impact on improving their SEO?
Right now, link building. 95% of websites fail due to terrible link-building campaigns. It’s one of Google’s most advanced algorithms, and the oldest, known as “PageRank,” catching those who abuse the link-building exchange, Google’s very own popularity vote.
If you get link building right, you’ll win in Google’s results pages.
Natural traffic, engagement, mobile-friendliness and proper and complex site structure and navigation are all crucial ranking factors on Google’s algorithm.
3. How can content creators drive results through SEO?
Content creators can significantly amplify SEO results by integrating digital PR campaigns and intentionally building their brand as a recognised entity in search ecosystems. Modern search engines, especially Google, evaluate not just keywords and backlinks, but also brand signals, authority, and entity recognition.
4. How important is DA vs DR vs page rank vs content relevancy?
DA vs DR
These two terms are purely invented by Moz and Ahrefs, simply marketing tools to evaluate link profiles, loosely based on Google’s PageRank tool from 2000, these scores can be helpful, but not a guide as Google’s own algorithm is vastly more complex than both Ahrefs and SEMRush’s – as you can easily manupliate these scores by simply adding footer or menu links towards your site.
PageRank
PageRank values were first publicly announced in early 2000, where you’d be able to see your PageRank score in your menu, however, Google soon saw how simple it was for webmasters to easily figure out what “appeases” their algorithm by seeing what increased the bar, e.g, PageRank sculpting, where you’d abuse nofollow and dofollow links internally.
Content Relevancy
Without contracting myself, Content Relevancy is massively important, a term known as “Proximity to Relevance,” – this more refers to the ratio of pages to the keyword/niche you’re targeting, e.g a website purely about the topic is more relevant than a site such as Amazon creating a page about UVPC Windows, this is why Amazon.com doesn’t rank for every single keyword.
5. What advice would you give to someone getting started?
Obsession, particularly if you want to compete against those who are hungrier than you, in the SEO game, those who are hungrier than you will beat you. Be obsessed with learning and testing everything you read, and take it all with a pinch of salt, particularly SEO influencers, those who do, and those who don’t teach.
5. How do you navigate the changes Google makes affecting the industry?
For me as someone has watched and experienced too many “Google updates” I tend to avoid reading and watch, every single major update I can tell you what has changed by looking at the heavily competitor keywords. we’re always adapting and often one of the first to do so.
To circle back, always make sure you’re using the best practice and adapt your SEO practices to the risk profile of your business or site.
6. How important is backlinks?
It’s the single most important practice you can use to rank your website higher in Google. 90% of websites are No.1 because their link profile is better than yours, perhaps Tier 1, 2 and 3 links in there, also you struggle to see. It’s simple to see that backlinks are the most important ranking factors for Google right now, even if Google does not say so, look at the most competitive keywords in the UK and beyond right now.
7. How do you measure the effectiveness of an SEO campaign?
We use a variety of tools to measure campaigns and live testing. Both paid tools such as Ahrefs and Sistrix, and Google’s own tools, such as Google Search Console and Google Analytics (GA4.) It’s important to use the best tools you can when it comes to measuring the effectiveness of the campaigns and testing, both of which as an SEO, you will continuously do.
We’re implementing a huge amount of AI nowadays, using AI to build custom built software and tools to expand our efficiency and effectiveness of time.
