London, February 2019 – Souljourn Yoga Foundation, a non-profit organisation created in the US to help raise awareness and funds for girls’ education in developing countries through the healing practice of yoga, will be hosting its second retreat this year in Tibet at Norden Camp from May 25th – June 1st.
On this fully-immersive 8-day adventure, expect to be surrounded by the majestic natural beauty of the Tibetan Plateau and immersed in profound culture. A generous portion of the retreat fees will be donated to help Educating Girls of Rural China, a nonprofit dedicated to providing high school and university educations to impoverished young women from rural regions of Western China.
Starting in Lanzhou, China, you will travel through the province of Ganzu, arriving at the group’s home for the week in Norden Camp, which has been named one of the best eco-lodges in the world by National Geographic. Norden Camp will take you deep in to the nomadic experience while simultaneously enjoying luxurious comfort and authentic Tibetan hospitality.
The week will consist of morning vinyasa practices, evening gentle flow, restorative and meditation, a guided hike to Labrang Monastery, and visits to a local Tibetan village and Norlha Textiles.
The full retreat itinerary includes:
Day 1: Welcome to Lanzhou – You will get picked up from the airport and taken to the hotel to rest and restore. A group dinner will be held to welcome and introduce fellow tribe members.
Day 2: Norden Camp – Rise and shine with an early breakfast before heading off to the plateau and Norden Camp. Enjoy a traditional Tibetan welcome lunch, settle into camp, and truly begin the adventure. There will be an opening circle and evening practice before our first feast underneath the clear and starry night.
Day 3: Explore + Restore – Wake up to fresh tea and coffee followed by a heated vinyasa practice. Today you may explore the camp and take advantage of its spa services, meet up for lunch, then enjoy a gentle flow and restorative class before sipping delicious cocktails in the lounge and feasting together an amazing traditional Tibetan dinner.
Day 4: Monastery Visit + Hike – Start the morning with a more intensive and stretchy yoga practice. We will then visit the local monastery to learn about Tibetan Buddhism and monastic life. Following this, we have a picnic lunch that awaits us after a gorgeous and challenging hike. We will return to Norden Camp to unwind, finishing the evening with a chilled out yoga session and dinner.
Day 5: Norhia Textiles – We start our day as usual with tea and coffee and a vinyasa yoga practice. Then will then visit Norhla Textiles, an ethical and handwoven yak wool textile collective. Learn all about the different techniques and artisans that use the land around them for inspiration. Yoga class will be at Norhla and we will return to Norden Camp for a late dinner.
Day 6: Savasana + Spa at Norden – Take advantage of all of the amazing activities from horseback riding to spa services. Wake up with a morning tea/coffee, followed by a heating vinyasa practice. We will meet up for lunch, take part in a chilled and restorative yoga class, then sip more delicious cocktails in the lounge and feast together with a celebratory dinner and bonfire.
Day 7: Day with Girls from EGRC – One more yoga class on the Plateau and breakfast at Norden Camp. We will head back to Lanzhou to meet with the amazing girls of Educating Girls of Rural China. Discover their personal journeys, obstacles, and learn about their daily life as we educate ourselves about the issues facing these smart, young women. The closing ceremony and dinner will be in Lanzhou.
Day 8: Departure – Our last breakfast as a tribe before we depart to the airport on our individual journeys.
The week-long retreat will be led by Souljourn Yoga Founder, Jordan Ashley, accompanied by popular London-based yoga teacher, Sarah Malcolm. The pair will be leading the daily vinyasa yoga practices and guiding the group through their transformative journey.
