Welsh Energy Management Company Signs Carbon Reduction Deal with Yorkshire Water

Press Release: April 15, 2010

Caerphilly based energy management company, RUMM (Remote Utility Monitoring and Management), has today announced details of a major new deal with Yorkshire Water, worth over £550,000.

Starting with immediate effect, the contract could run for 5 years during which time RUMM estimates saving Yorkshire Water at least £3.2M in energy consumption at its Leeds Knostrop site. This equates to 1,376 tonnes of CO2, and a minimum of 20% site saving in energy costs.

Following the first 12 months of activity at the Knostrop site, Yorkshire Water will then consider engaging RUMMs services at its many other locations.

Initially competing against other companies, the deal has taken RUMM over a year to complete. However it is confident that findings from the initial 3 months of investigation will allow Yorkshire Water to see immediate cost savings.

RUMMs total recommendations will then be implemented over the next 5 years and constantly reviewed in order to ensure Yorkshire Water is getting the maximum benefit from RUMMs cutting-edge web based software suite and support services.

Jamie Watkins, Chief Executive of RUMM said:

We are delighted to have signed this deal and are confident that as well as saving Yorkshire Water money, the processes and equipment we install will help the company work towards the governments CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme which launches in April.

One of the unique characteristics of our software is that we are able to remotely collect data from any system, allowing us to service clients, despite their geographical location.

We are quickly establishing ourselves as a thought leader in the field of energy management and are already speaking to other UK water companies about our services. We will also be hosting an event later in the year to fully explain how RUMM can benefit them in this climate of environmental concern.

Yorkshire Water is currently driving a number of key initiatives to increase its renewable energy generation and improve the energy efficiency of its assets - both of which contribute significantly to reducing carbon emissions and therefore its contribution to climate change.

Ben Roche, Group Energy Manager at Yorkshire Water said:

We are absolutely delighted to be working with RUMM, we see them as leaders in utility metering and monitoring and are convinced that collectively we can find significant savings across our largest operational sites. We are committed as an organisation to reduce our carbon emissions and we believe that by working with RUMM we will further improve the environmental benefit of our operational sites.
