UK Car Scrappage Scheme - Exit Phase Approaching

Press Release: February 25, 2010

The scheme has so far been a roaring success, with a number of manufacturers announcing plans to continue to offer similar deals to its customers despite the end of the initial Government plan.

A number of UK car manufacturers have since been allocated a further 50,000 orders by the Department of Business, dependant on vehicle popularity. It is hoped that this will facilitate a smooth conclusion to the project.

Business Secretary, Lord Mandelson, said: This is last orders for the scrappage scheme. Car owners need to move quickly to avoid disappointment if they want to buy a new car at a discount.

Industry figures have showed again and again the benefits that the scrappage scheme is continuing to deliver to the automotive sector and beyond. It is great news that in January scrappage helped the industry to achieve its biggest output gain since May 1976.
