However, advanced radar technology from automotive experts Ford could help drivers to detect all movement that is hidden in a blind spot to reduce the possibility of accidents and the increase in UK car insurance premiums.

The Blind Spot Information system is set to for implementation across Fords S-Max and Galaxy models. The device aims to warn drivers when a vehicle, cyclist or pedestrian enters their blind spot with an LED light illuminating in the wing mirror to notify motorists of activity in blind spot zones.

The new technology has been designed to work at all speeds down to 6mph, allowing drivers to negotiate traffic in congested hours without fear of causing an accident from their blind spot.

Recent studies from Auto Windscreens revealed that a fifth of UK car insurance customers surveyed admitted to driving without their corrective eyewear which is against the law and can create further dangers to vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians within blind spots.
