Tuscany Leather Cabin Bags to meet the Ryanair Cabin Bag Allowance

Press Release: August 10, 2018

With it being summer, people are often shopping for holdalls for cabin luggage and asking questions about the size aspects. It can be puzzling. You want to be sure you can use your shiny new bag on your next trip without any issue. The folks at Made in Tuscany have taken this into account, and you can now browse a range of Tuscany Leather holdalls at www.madeintuscany.co.uk which meet the size requirements.

One of the key airlines which cause people concern is Ryanair, so we thought to look at them in the light of the types of holdalls we sell here at Made in Tuscany.

Some other exceptions

As an aside, there are other airlines, such as Flybe which have slightly different cabin baggage requirements to most other airlines (the majority of airlines have the same standard which is slightly more liberal than Ryanair and others). Flybe operate some different aircraft types which allow them to serve smaller airports in places such as the Channel Islands. These, and 'Island Hopper' services have stricter requirements due to the weight of bags and the size of the compartments on these smaller aircraft.

What has Ryanair done?

At the time of writing, the airline plans to charge £10 on a return flight to bring on board holdalls or larger bags.

Here is what they say:

"Ryanair’s new bag policy went live today (15 Jan) offering:

– Lower check-in bag fees (down from €/£35 to €/£25 per check-in bag)
– Bigger check-in bag allowances (up from 15kg to 20kg)
– 2 free carry-on bag allowance for all customers continues
– Non-priority customers can bring 2 free carry-on bags but will be required to put the bigger of the 2 bags in the hold – free of charge – at the boarding gate to avoid boarding delays and/or baggage offloads.

Priority Boarding can be purchased at time of flight booking for just €/£5 or added for €/£6 up to 30 minutes before scheduled departure time on the Ryanair App."

Priority Boarding customers can bring two carry-on bags on the aircraft, which can be added from just €/£5. All other customers will still enjoy our free two bag allowance and can bring one smaller carry-on bag on board, while their second (bigger) wheelie bag will be placed in the hold (free of charge) at the boarding gate.”

So, essentially, you pay £5 or 5EUR one way to become a priority passenger to be able to take on two carry-on bags. Otherwise, you will only be allowed a small handbag or laptop bag on board (with max dimensions of 35cm x 20cm x 20cm) if you don’t pay extra for priority boarding.

What is the problem?

Besides the cost, if you turn up to the gate with a larger bag, they will need to check it into the hold. This means you will have to wait at the other end for your bags. A pain if you're on a short trip and only had this piece of carry on luggage.

A further pain is that you might not have planned to have your Made in Tuscany masterpiece floating around airport conveyor belts. And those items you wanted to have to hand during the flight are now somewhere beneath the floor.

So what are Ryanair Cabin Bag size requirements?

The main piece of luggage for the cabin must not weigh more than 10kg and cannot exceed the Ryanair baggage allowance size which is: maximum dimensions 55 x 40 x 20 cm. The second item, which can include a handbag, briefcase, laptop, camera, shop purchases, etc. must not be larger than 35 x 20 x 20cm.

At made in Tuscany, you will find all of our bags have dimensions listed.

Since airline requirements do change, we haven't listed the airlines which will accept our bags, so we hope this blog post is helpful as a point of reference from which you can choose your luggage.

Pop over to the holdalls section at Made in Tuscany to see what is on offer at the moment, and, armed with your £10, you'll be all set to make sure you have no unexpected surprises.
