Teacher recruitment agency introduces £500 ‘golden hello’ to help attract teachers back into the classroom

A London-based teacher recruitment agency is taking a novel step towards encouraging teachers back into schools, with the introduction of a £500 ‘golden hello’ to qualified teachers taking a permanent job at the start of the academic year in September.

TLTP Education http://www.tltp.co.uk (The London Teaching Pool) will make the payment to any teacher that it places in either a primary or secondary school teaching job once they have satisfactorily completed their twelve-week probationary period with the school.

“Teacher shortages in England are growing and the government has missed its recruitment targets for four years,” says TLTP Managing Director, Darryl Mydat.

“We decided that something needed to be done to try and stimulate the market and incentivise professionals to get back into the classroom. One upside of the teacher shortage is that there are some great vacancies and career opportunities available for teachers. We hope this will encourage teachers to explore them.”

Mydat says that UK schools are having to compete with the expanding international sector, which is attracting British teachers with competitive, tax-free salaries, free accommodation and a warmer climate, whilst many UK schools are themselves looking abroad, particularly to Canada, Australia and New Zealand for teachers to fill their vacancies.
