The UK Government is set to urge the British people to holiday at home during this period of great uncertainty over international travel and the Red Lion Hotel is stepping up preparations to welcome you for your stay-cation to Cromer ‘The Gem of the North Norfolk Coast’.
In an interview for ITV last week Health Secretary Matt Hancock said he was looking to “reopen hospitality from early July if we keep successfully reducing the spread of this virus” adding that “it’s unlikely big lavish international holidays are going to be possible for this summer. I just think that’s a reality of life”.
With the ‘stay-cation’ set to become the new norm the North Norfolk coast is fast becoming a popular destination and advanced bookings for rooms at the Red Lion are gathering pace.
Jo Alger co - owner of the hotel who has been managing bookings and keeping in touch with regulars during the lock down period says “the appetite for people looking to stay with us has been amazing even with all of the uncertainty. People can’t wait to get away as the lock down is eased and we are filling up with provisional bookings for the rest of the year already”.
Whilst Jo and the team are excited about welcoming back guests they want to do so with the hotel being as safe as possible. “We are currently implementing and installing measures to keep both the staff and customers safe”, Jo says talking with regards to how Covid-19 is going to change the way the business operates. “ The main difficulty we face is keeping the 2 metre social distance in our public areas but we have planned a one way system, installed screens and reduced and distanced the number of tables in our dining areas. The staff will have the appropriate PPE available to them and there will be pop up wash stations positioned around our public areas for guests to use”.
One of the big issues facing all in the hospitality industry is the taking of payments and the delivery of food and drink to customers. “We will be encouraging contactless payments, having pick up points for food and drink to minimise face to face time with staff and customers and we are even looking into having a mobile phone based ordering system. We want people to feel comfortable and safe coming to stay at the Red Lion whilst still being able to enjoy the personal touch we have become renowned for, albeit at a distance”.
