Sportdec Announce Global Expansion of App, Bringing Real-Time Match Experiences to Sports Fans

Dublin-based sports technology company Sportdec have announced the worldwide launch of their iOS and Android app, disrupting the 1 billion sports fan market, with an app offering real-time match information to football fans, including football live scores, statistics, news and video content, and personalised notifications.

The company, which is in the middle of an investment round, is expanding its offering worldwide as of today, in both the Apple App Store and now Google Play Store. The app is a disruptive ‘single solution’ and one of the fastest apps of its kind, with a well organised user-friendly interface allowing fans to navigate between live scores, in-play stats and live tweeting from the two teams, with additional content including past results, key facts, and related news. These features are now being rolled out to football fans worldwide, perfectly timed for the Premier League this weekend, UEFA Champions League matches next Tuesday and Wednesday, and the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in two weeks time.

Since August 2016, Sportdec has already achieved the No.1 ranking for (free) sports apps in the Apple App Store in Ireland and No. 27 in the UK, where they had their initial focus while growing an impressive user base of over 60,000 in the two local markets. Sportdec are targeting a market of over 20 million (adult) sports fans in the UK and Ireland, while worldwide estimates suggest that over 1 billion people follow sport. Their aim is to acquire over 300,000 new users in 2017 globally, then target over 1.5 million users in 2018.

Initially launched for football, given its popularity as the world's number one sport, further sports are planned later this year and in 2018 including rugby union, tennis, golf, F1, cricket, and more.
Sportdec’s CEO Bruce Bale said: “Launching worldwide is a key part of our growth strategy, and also sees us list in Google's Play Store for the first time, accessing the huge global audience on Android.

"We know that fan trends demand greater and more personalised ways to follow their favourite teams, athletes and events. Our future roadmap includes numerous features focused on truly connecting fans and facilitating social competition.

“We will be developing our features in the coming months to include ticket, travel, accommodation, venue and event information, along with potentially including retail and merchandising."

Sportdec is currently seeking external funding of €3 million in order to scale and grow the business as it delivers their cutting edge technology in the rapidly growing sports fan sector. It has well known shareholders from the world of sport, including former legendary snooker world champions Stephen Hendry MBE and Ken Doherty, former European Tour pro golfer and Sky Sports commentator Gary Murphy, and former Ireland and Leinster rugby captain Reggie Corrigan. Sportdec employs 19 people in their Sandyford head office. In addition to Ireland, the company have registered offices in the UK and Malta.
