Press Release: April 08, 2010
Around 7.2 million homes in the Granada TV area, which covers Cheshire, Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside have had their analogue signals switched off permanently.
The digital switchover began in Britain in 2007 and the government aims to have the countrys analogue signal completely switched off by 2012. The switchover process involves replacing the analogue channels with free-to-air digital TV and radio services, i.e. Freeview.
The switchover has already been completed in parts of East and Central Wales, as well as in the North West England. The other regions in England and Wales, as well as in Scotland and Northern Ireland, will be switched over to the digital signal by the end of 2012.
Marina Vrahimi of TV systems provider SCC International said: *its getting very exciting now that regions are actually being fully switched over to digital. The next big switch is in the Western region (starting March 2010) where Bristol in particular will be the major challenge. SCCi have installed many Integrated Reception Systems (IRS) in the Bristol area so we are confident that a high proportion of residents in flats and apartments will already be prepared for watching Digital Terrestrial TV (Freeview) and Digital Satellite TV (Freesat, Sky, Sky+, Sky+ HD)
