Sat 16 Jan 2010 - Skydivers head to the North West

Press Release: January 06, 2010

The best in-air footage of skydivers in action will be chosen at a skydiving Film Festival in Blackpool on the afternoon of Saturday 16 January.

Skydivers from all over the UK will be at the annual meeting of the British Parachute Association at the Blackpool Hilton. They are meeting in the North West for the first time.

The Film Festival at 1300 will be one of the highlights of the day.

The films will be followed at 1400 by an introduction to skydiving for those who want to find out about skydiving as a sport. There will also be an exhibition.

Free jumps are on offer in a prize draw for tandem skydives and static line first jumps at one of the local parachute centres in the north west.

There are drop zones at Cockerham near Lancaster, and Cark near Grange-over-Sands.

Adrian Bond from St Michaels on Wyre, chair of the organising committee, says: The image of the macho daredevil skydiver isnt the reality of the sport today. About half of todays first-time jumpers are women. And the World Champions 4-way womens Formation Skydiving team, Team Storm is as British as Blackpool rock.

Skydiving is relatively little known because its not the kind of sport that schools or colleges are able to offer. A weekend skydiving can be a wonderful release from the trials and tribulations of the rest of the week!

So if you fancy finding out about skydiving, pop along to the Blackpool Hilton at 1300 on Saturday 16 January for the annual meeting of the British Parachute Association. Everyone is welcome.
