REVEALED: The Most Searched Celebrity Engagement in 2020

Press Release: February 24, 2021

While 2020 was a year of shock and change, there were some positives to come from it. Although weddings have been put on hold until things return to normal and we can celebrate in style, love blossomed for some when they took their relationship to the next level.
Gushing over celebrity engagements gives us a chance to escape the real world and find out all the glamorous details like how they were proposed to, and of course, the engagement ring that started it all.
Here, we look at Google search data to find out which celebrity engagement was the most popular of 2020. This gives us insight into who’s being searched for the most.

Ariana Grande

The most popular celebrity engagement was American singer Ariana Grande with a total average monthly searches of 7,048.
On Sunday 20th December, Ariana Grande announced her engagement on her Instagram profile to her 220 million followers with the caption “Forever n then some”.
The Instagram post included several pictures of her engagement ring from her fiancé, Dalton Gomez, which is estimated to have cost six figures. Page Six reports that the ring “appears to be an oval diamond, likely around 5–6 carats, offset next to a lustrous pearl on a thin platinum band”.

Stacey Solomon

Stacey Solomon came second with 479 average monthly searches.
The X-Factor contestant turned TV presenter was proposed to by Joe Swash, who decided on a surprise proposal on a Christmas Eve woodland walk near their home in Essex. The engagement ring consists of two Australian opals, which represent both her birthstone and Australia, the place where the couple fell in love.
The newly engaged couple took to Instagram, with Stacey posting: "To the moon and back bub. I have no words." The couple plan to get married this year.

Leigh Anne Pinnock

Little Mix member Leigh Anne Pinnock came third with 440 average monthly searches.
Leigh got engaged to Watford FC footballer Andre Gray after he proposed on their fourth-year anniversary in their fairy-lit back garden. Andre was the first to announce the post on his Instagram account with the caption: “Let the caption speak for itself this time.” Followed by a heart and engagement ring emoji, adding: “Hasta la muerte,” which translates to “Until death.”
Experts estimate that the ring is worth over £25,000. Capital FM reported: “From the image, we can see it's a beautiful and unique large vintage inspired black diamond ring, which looks to be a cushion-cut, with its softly rounded corners.
"The size of the ring would suggest the black diamond is at least 5ct, and with the rarity of the black diamond, this makes for a very expensive ring. We'd estimate it is worth upwards of £25,000."

Gwen Stefani

American singer Gwen Stefani came fourth with 413 average monthly searches after getting engaged to Blake Shelton in October. Gwen announced to fans via her Instagram three weeks later, likely to revel in the bliss of the proposal privately. Gwen is wearing a large, square, $500,000 diamond ring to celebrate the next stage of their relationship after Blake proposed to her by hiding the ring in a cabinet at a ranch they were staying at.
Gwen and Blake were together for five years after meeting on the set of The Voice before he asked her to marry him. It is reported that they plan to get hitched at the ranch they got engaged at this year.

Lady Kitty Spencer

British fashion model and niece of Princess Diana, Kitty Spencer came fifth with 300 average monthly searches. Kitty got engaged to American fashion tycoon Michael Lewis at the start of 2020.
Although the couple hasn’t made a public announcement about the engagement, Kitty was spotted wearing a flawless 30-carat emerald cut diamond engagement ring worth an estimated £300,000.
Oliver Horner from Prestige Pawnbrokers of Channel 4’s Posh Paw told The Daily Mail: “This gorgeous full hoop diamond full band engagement ring is of extremely high quality. The full band is set with large emerald-cut diamonds, each stone looks to be approximately one and a half carats and I would estimate the total diamond weight of the ring to be between 25 and 30 carats.
“Judging from the image the diamonds look to be of exceptional quality and I estimate a clarity grade to be between flawless and VVS1 and to be of D to F colour which is the very best.”
