Press Release: November 23, 2016
The number of people getting infected each year has not slowed down, even with the steady increase in number of people receiving treatment for HIV, says RNCOS in its latest research report.
South Africa has a unique epidemiology pattern of diseases, varying across different socio economic group and provinces. The prevalence of HIV is the highest amongst all in South Africa accounting for 36% of the death. With rise in the number of infection every year, there is an increasing demand of ARV drugs and other generic medicines. Owing to above factors, South African Generic Medicine market will grow at a CAGR of around 12% from 2017-2022 says RNCOS in its latest research report, “South Africa Generics Medicine Market Outlook 2022”.
Active government support in form of largest antiretroviral treatment (ARV) for the communicable disease has led to increased usage of generics medicine. Driven by such initiatives there is rise in need for the production of generic medicines prescribed under the ARV treatment.
With high prevalence of numerous diseases in the country, there is demand for quality healthcare infrastructure. The entry of the HIV treatment in the generic drug category has been an important milestone in ensuring substantial benefits to consumers. In a bid to reach out to more HIV infected population, the South African government encourages its HIV negative population to undergo an HIV test once every year to control the infection and start early treatment in case of detection. Such initiatives by the government are expected to drive the generic medicine market in South Africa during the forecasted period of 2016-2022.
