Online parties done right!

Press Release: April 20, 2020

A Bristol man has created an online radio station just so his wife can have a proper birthday party online with friends. Dan Broughton was not impressed with the audio quality of music shared on group video chats when other friends had tried to have online parties, so looked for ways to improve the experience.

“I have a lot of mates who like to DJ and tried doing online parties with Facebook or Houseparty app - the problem was the music cut-outs out when you want to chat, or Facebook mutes copyrighted music, plus the sound on your phone is usually pretty rubbish anyway” he said. “After having a think I settled on the idea of using internet radio to play the music via your own home speaker system. Phones are used only for video chat.”

There are many online platforms that can be used to stream radio. Licensing however was another issue he had to deal with. “I knew licensing would be an issue - for what I needed the cost was a few hundred pounds. For my wife, thats probably the cheapest Birthday she’s had for while!”

He ended up creating an online radio station in just a couple of days, the idea being all friends could stream music from the radio station to their speakers via a spare smartphone, Smart TV, laptop, or similar, whilst chatting on group video on their phones.

“After I set it up a bunch of friends got involved as well and it took on a life of its own. My mate Inkie is a graffiti artist and legendary party animal, and got a bunch of great DJs to send mixes to upload.”

“I also thought there must be many people out there who can’t celebrate their Birthday party properly that could use this too - so if anyone wants a Birthday shout-out they can contact us - we have Kitchen Disco Lockdown Sessions every Thurs, Fri, and Saturday.”
