Press Release: June 11, 2015
Resident Chain Valley Bay author Margaret Lewis will be paying a visit to Lake Haven Library on Tuesday 14th July to read extracts from her wildly successful debut - 'Collection of Short Stories'.
This is a work in which the writer is truly at home, displaying inside knowledge of the social milieu portrayed. The stories take us into familiar situations, but what we thought were commonplace circumstances often bring us up short with a surprise twist. The innate fears of the elderly, the insecurities of youth, the single, and the entrepreneur, are explored in depth with descriptive powers that bring the characters to life in a succinct style that nevertheless conveys a rounded picture of society today. Family relationships are conveyed warmly, convincingly and recognizably in this collection, which is truly a reflection of real life.
Margaret had been writing for many years before climbing to success back in March 2014, when her novel was taken on by leading London publishing house Austin Macauley. “About 30 years ago, I wrote Short Stories for my daughter but did not think about getting them published”.
Margaret was born in the UK and raised in the small village of Ombersley in Worcestershire. After getting married in 1966 she immigrated to Australia in 1969. After having two children (now grown up) Margaret and her husband now enjoy retirement on the central coast of NSW where she now commits herself to writing.
When asked what advice she would give to other budding writers, “If you have a dream, go for it, and keep trying. You already have nothing to lose – it’s so important to keep your dream alive”.
Join Margaret at Lake Haven Library on Tuesday 14th July at 10:30am
