Press Release: March 29, 2010
Until now, amazingly, there has been no comprehensive and dedicated directory for the UKs 6 million dog owners. Well, that is set to change following the launch of an exciting new website www.thewoofbook.co.uk
Thewoofbook.co.uk is set to be the UKs most comprehensive online directory and information resource for dog owners, and features links to literally thousands of UK based dog related businesses from grooming salons to online dog stores, as well as handy features including a Walkipedia, forums and very useful advice on dog ownership.
Thewoofbook.co.uk will shortly also enable UK based dog owners to save money from participating retailers and services with a range of unique discounts and offers, not available anywhere else when its unique woofpass scheme is launched later this year.
Founder and designer of thewoofbook, Rachel Duffield, who lives in Durham commented As a devoted dog owner myself, I created thewoofbook.co.uk because I was frustrated at trawling through search results to find things for my dog only to foreign sites, irrelevant results and poor websites etc. prior to my site when I used to look for dog products online for my Labrador, it was not unusual for me to get to page 30 on Google!
I asked fellow dog owners their opinions and they echoed my feelings. As an experienced web developer, I then knew I had to do something about it Rachel commented.
There are other general directory sites such as Yell.com etc which are ok for basic dog services, but not as good for dog products, and these directory sites dont bring you web links to all the dog businesses listed as it relies on the advertiser having to pay. We list links to company websites for free and have more than 6,000 UK based dog related businesses listed at the moment and are adding more every week!.
A year and a lot of hard work later, Rachel has single handedly put together an innovative website which in its first 24 hours of going live has attracted a lot of interest from dog owners all over the UK. Comments made on the sites own forum include comments such It's fantastic - Rachel you and your team have a done a brilliant & much needed job in producing the site. The site has performed more than 130,000 searches for UK dog owners in its first 6 weeks, indicating that there is a real and genuine need for such a website, and that Google is good but not always the best option for finding things Rachel told us.
The Woof Book have also announced that a percentage of any profits raised by advertising on the website will be donated to canine charities including Dogs Trust and Guide Dogs, so dog owners using the site are actually benefiting both worthwhile causes.
