Press Release: September 28, 2020
Earlier this year, Montrose Glass received a call from a lady in London who had a broken window in her home and needed it repaired urgently. The team checked the local glaziers’ availability and assured the caller that they could have a team with her in 90 minutes. The caller asked to confirm that they would definitely have a team with her that quickly. To their surprise, she explained that the repair was urgent as she was in the middle of getting ready to attend The Brit Awards, revealing that she had used a pseudonym at the beginning of the call, and was actually Joanna Lumley.
Luckily, Montrose Glass didn’t need to roll out the red carpet; Joanna Lumley’s window repair had already been logged into the system and the nearest glaziers had confirmed they could complete the job. They arrived within the 90 minutes promised, and the window repair was completed quickly despite it being difficult to access the window, which was on the second floor with a basement-level drop below it.
Michael Montrose Jnr., Managing Director of Montrose Glass, said, “We do work for celebrities fairly regularly, but usually the call will come from a PR, so we were surprised that Joanna Lumley herself was on the phone.” He continued “While it was lovely to speak with such a talented and well-known actress, and of course an honour that she chose our company for her emergency glass repair, but we didn’t have to change anything about our normal emergency glazing service because it was a celebrity client.
“We pride ourselves on always being honest with our customers about the ETA of our glaziers to their property. Broken windows are stressful enough and we would never want customers waiting anxiously for us to arrive. We’re happy that we were able to provide Joanna Lumley with the same great customer service that we offer all customers, no matter how well-known they are.”
Despite the difficult access to the window, the two-man team of glaziers used a triple extension ladder to clear the window frame of shards and board up the window so that Ms. Lumley could attend the awards confident that her property was secure. They arranged an appointment to return at a time that suited Joanna, with a larger team and a specialist triple extension ladder to fit the replacement glazing. In fact, Joanna was so impressed with the service of Montrose Glass that, when another window was broken just two months later, she knew exactly who to call.
Best known for her role as Patsy Stone in the BBC sitcom Absolutely Fabulous, Joanna Lumley OBE is herself an award-winning actress, most notably having received two BAFTA TV awards for her iconic role, as well as receiving an Academy Fellowship from the institution. Joanna now lives in the London borough of Lambeth with her husband, opera conductor Stephen Barlow.
