We are all guilty of neglecting our bodies more during the colder months. Now that shorts, skirts and swimwear are on the horizon, there can be a last-minute panic to achieve summer legs. Models Direct have put together some tips to help anyone wishing to follow the bare-legs trends to get perfect pins and be the envy of their friends.
Take up regular toning exercises
Its obvious, but get exercising those legs if you want them toned for summer. We didnt say it was going to be easy! Running, walking, swimming, aerobics, tennis, dancing, cycling, trampolining the choices are endless. so pick whichever way to tone up you prefer - but start now if you want to look great in shorts by summer. We recommend at least half an hour of toning exercise, a minimum of three to four times a week. If youre not used to exercising, start gently and build up gradually.
Avoid sitting or standing still for long periods
This may seem tricky but its really simple to keep the blood moving if you are conscious of it. If you have a desk job, simply rotating you ankles or pointing and flexing your toes every half an hour will make a huge difference to sluggish circulation. If you feel youve been stationary for too long, try offering to make the tea or run an errand. Some of those jobs that you usually avoid could be just the thing to aid leg vein circulation without even trying.
Consider a break from hormones
Hormone Replacement Treatments and birth control pills can constrict your blood vessels, weakening vein valves and walls and encouraging thread, and even varicose, veins. Consider whether or not you really need to be taking hormones. A short break may be beneficial - but talk to your doctor before making any changes.
Tights and stockings
Try some of the tights and stockings products on the market that are designed to improve circulation. You can go for something subtle and cosmetic or try compression stockings - which can improve circulation, prevent deterioration and relieve symptoms of bad circulation. If you decide to try compression stockings, do not wear support factor 14 or over unless you have taken advice from a healthcare professional.
Some products can improve circulation. Look in your local chemist for moisturisers that include ingredients like ginger or pine extract. A loofah or exfoliating sponge is also a fantastic buy for maintaining smoother legs. Exfoliate every time you bathe or shower, and follow with a circulation boosting moisturiser - you will quickly notice a dramatic improvement. Finish with a fake tanning product to smooth out any imperfections.
Put your feet up
Our favourite! After all that hard work you deserve to put your feet up. By raising the legs 15-30cm (6-12 inches) above the heart whenever possible, you will be assisting circulation and improving the appearance of your legs.
