Press Release: December 07, 2009
It will soon be the season to be jolly and a good diet will help to ensure that you look fabulous and feel great throughout the winter months.
The most successful models are often very health conscious and careful about what they eat but it isnt all about self-denial! The best way to enhance your looks and health is to make sure your body is getting all the nutrients it needs, and the good news is that a healthy diet doesnt have to mean missing out. Many traditional Christmas foods are bursting with goodness. Here are Models Directs favourite seasonal super-foods.
Turkey is full of a mood boosting amino acid called tryptophan, a natural anti-depressant. It is also a great source of protein, which will make you feel fuller for longer and is an essential part of your diet. If you are concerned about saturated fat simply leave the skin and opt for breast meat.
Notoriously good for bladder health, cranberries will help flush out bacteria and are particularly beneficial if your alcohol intake is higher than usual. They contain natural antibiotics and, as with many brightly coloured fruits, also offer antioxidants to help protect from free radicals, the harmful molecules to which we are exposed in daily life.
Sprouts are incredibly good for you. They are high in fibre and rich in folic acid and thats just for starters! The humble sprout also contains a compound known as glucosinolate, a very effective detoxifier. Regular consumption will support liver function and even help protect against cancer.
The Omega-3 fats found in oily fish are brain and heart boosters. They have been shown to lower the risk of heart disease considerably and increase your IQ! Omega-3 also has anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant properties, so incorporating it into your diet is a must this season! Wild salmon is best and most tinned salmon is wild, so why not stock up?
Herbs, onions and garlic
Onions and garlic reduce cholesterol and thin the blood. They are anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and can help prevent cancer.
Thyme is bursting with antioxidants so it helps protect against cell damage. It also calms coughs and is an affective anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial agent.
Rosemary has been used to help with a huge variety of ailments including tension headaches, and poor circulation. It is also said to calm the nerves and relax muscles.
Parsley is a diuretic so it helps to reduce water retention and is also high in antioxidants.
Research suggests that sage is anti-fungal, anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant, anti-septic, anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic.
Pass the stuffing!
