Press Release: January 15, 2010
Vodafone will become the fourth mobile phone carrier to distribute the iPhone and iPhone 3GS, following Orange, Tesco Mobile and O2s distribution agreements. Thousands of UK consumers will receive their new iPhones today, with over 50,000 handsets pre-ordered via the Vodafone website to be delivered nationwide.
Vodafone CEO, Guy Laurence said: The main reason for the exceptional demand was customers wanting to use the phone on our outstanding network.
This move marks a stark increase in direct competition for the Apple iPhone, particularly due to the fact that all four providers are offering very similar pay-monthly contracts. Vodafone users will receive up to 1GB of 3G data as part of their monthly price-plan, comparing favourably with Oranges offer of 750MB.
The high-end mobile phone and smartphone craze shows no sign of letting up, with a host of new models set for release on the UK market in the coming weeks. Nevertheless it is to the credit of the iPhone, the latest BlackBerry Bold and Storm devices and the Palm Pre that this cluster of smartphones will remain big players in the market.
The continuing success and evolution of the smartphone culture plays kindly into the hands of mobile phone accessories manufacturers. The versatility of the latest handsets has ensured a multitude of accessories are available on the market, to improve connectivity with Bluetooth, USB and audio.
