LONDON. A unique perspective from one man and his easel.

Press Release: June 25, 2015

Peter ‘Pete the Street’ Brown, award-winning artist has built a reputation for being one of the country’s best ‘plein-air’ artists, painting cities and landscapes in the UK and around the world from real life - outdoors, on the streets, in all weathers.

But the city Peter keeps coming back to is London. Not just for its magnificent views, skyline and architecture, but for the variety, energy and communities. Pete has amassed hundreds of breathtaking paintings of the city, and has collected countless amusing stories to tell of London and its people.

“London is such an exciting city; it keeps calling me back. I work outdoors, so I get to meet all sorts of people from all walks of life while I paint. Whether it be tourists & shoppers in the West End, office workers in the City, or just people going about their daily lives in parks & markets. The book will showcase a variety of aspects of the city and its people.” Peter Brown

Peter has always wanted to do a book of his London paintings, to share his work with a wider audience, so has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter in the hope of gaining the necessary support and funding to make this happen: kck.st/1C2Yvlj

BIOGRAPHY
PETER BROWN, NEAC, RP, RP, ROI, RBA (Hon), PS

Peter Brown is a Bath based artist, an all-weather painter of street scenes and city landscapes. Known for working directly from his subject, he is more affectionately known as 'Pete the Street'.

Pete was born in Reading in 1967. Painting from an early age, he studied Art at Bath College of Higher Education and Manchester Polytechnic. In 1995 he returned to Bath where he started his practice of working from life in the city.

Obsessed with city life, Pete has painted in London, Bath, Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Paris, Barcelona, Toronto, Udaipur and Varanasi in India. In 2006, he became the first artist in residence at the Savoy Hotel, London and in 2008 was awarded the Prince of Wales award for portrait drawing. He is a member of the New English Art Club, The Royal Society of Portrait Painters, The Royal Institute of Oil Painters, The Pastel Society and an honorary member of the Royal Society of British Artists.

With his determination to work only directly from the subject, Peter is widely acclaimed as one of the best plein-air painters practising in this country today and his sell out exhibitions are a tribute to that. Pete’s work can be found in numerous private and public collections around the world. He is represented internationally by Messum’s, London. He lives in Bath with his wife Lisa and five children Ollie, Toby, Hattie, Ella and Ned. Find out more about Pete and his paintings at www.petethestreet.com
