Press Release: March 03, 2010
In their latest report, Tackling Climate Change Closer to Home, CBI reinforced their belief that greener driving awareness could save UK motorists as much as £250 on their car insurance premiums.
Dr Neil Bentley, CBI director of business environment, said: "Making energy-efficient driving techniques a mandatory part of the test will make a significant contribution to changing the next generation of motorists' behaviour and to cutting transport emissions."
There are already simple methods of using your car and your fuel tank in an efficient, cost-effective manner. By driving in as high a gear as your driving speed allows you can keep the engine revs to a minimum. Meanwhile steady, consistent acceleration and braking is also a common factor in ensuring your fuel goes the extra mile.
Adding any unnecessary extra weight to your vehicle will naturally increase fuel consumption, so avoid driving with unused roof racks for example. Ensuring that tyres are inflated to the optimum levels will reduce the amount of drag on the motorways and allow you to drive further whilst keeping your tyres in good shape.
