A study related to the recent launch of Apples iPad has found that less than half of Brits know what the Apple iPad is, despite a flurry of media attention surrounding the tablet device.
Of the 1,374 people that took part in the research, almost half, 49%, thought the iPad was a mobile phone. Only 41% correctly identified the iPad as a tablet computer, whilst 6% believed it to be an MP3 player.
A further 1% of the people questioned by http://www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk said the Apple iPad was a camera, whilst 0.7% claimed it was a digital photo frame.
Of the remaining respondents, 2% believed the iPad to be a type of hand-held games console and 0.3% thought the brand was branching out into feminine hygiene products and said it was Apples range of sanitary towels.
Although three fifths of people wrongly identified the function of the Apple iPad, 81% said they were interested in buying one.
Of those that said the iPad was a mobile phone, 87% thought it was a next generation iPhone. Since January when the iPad was announced, MyVoucherCodes.co.uk has experienced a huge number of searches for the device, despite the fact that the tablet has not yet launched in the UK.
The respondents were also clueless to the price of the iPad, as well as being unfamiliar with the concept of the device. Over a third, 36%, of the people asked said they thought the iPad would cost £900 or more, when in fact it retails at $400 in the US; the equivalent of 260 British pounds.

Since Apples CEO Steve Jobs announced the iPad back in January, hundreds of thousands of people have accessed our website to search for discounts for the product, despite the fact the product hasnt even launched in the UK yet.
Although we had suspicions that a lot of people thought the iPad was a phone, its incredibly surprising to see just how many actually did. As for the people that thought the launch was regarding a new range of high-tech sanitary pads, I dont even know what to say!
