Free Cyber Security Resources for Small Businesses Announced

Press Release: March 24, 2021

To aid small businesses, SMEs and anyone who is self-employed working in Greater Manchester and the North West, the Cyber Resilience Centre for Greater Manchester (CRCGM) have launched a dedicated area of cyber resources, guidance and useful links to help businesses who are on their journey to become cyber resilient.

If you're a growing business (or already established), the CRCGM can help further your education and strengthen your resilience against cyber attacks. The CRCGM can also work closely alongside businesses to ensure they fully understand your business needs and can tailor their membership or cyber services to not only fit in with the way your company works but also fit within your budget.

Many small to medium-sized businesses wrongly assume that they do not need cybersecurity help because they outsource their IT support. When in reality, the Cyber Resilience Centre can work together with your managed IT provider to ensure your staff receive security awareness training, your data is backed up regularly and any vulnerabilities are found and secured.

A survey by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) in 2020 found around 52% of micro and small businesses fell victim to a cybersecurity breach or cyber attack in the past 12 months. The average cost to each business was nearly £1,000 – rising to as much as £3,000 for some.

This small business guidance is part of a collection of CRCGM guidance which has been reviewed and refreshed to offer up-to-date tips on implementing key security controls.

This includes the Covid-19 resource, which breaks down the latest scams, fraud and cyber trends, and this charities guidance which outlines the online phishing attacks and scams that can put you and your charity at risk.

For further information regarding the support which the Cyber Resilience Centre for Greater Manchester can offer SMEs, charities and non-profits, sign up for Core Membership today. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact them here.
