Fortis Hospital Mulund receives the coveted JCI Accreditation, again
Fortis Mulund is the only hospital in Mumbai and the second hospital in India to be JCI accredited for the fourth time in a row
Mumbai, May 21st 2015: Fortis Hospital, Mulund, Mumbai, has received the Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation – the Gold Standard for hospitals across the globe for the fourth time running. The achievement underscores the Fortis Hospital’s commitment to high standard quality and patient safety that only a few hospitals in the country offer. Fortis Mulund has the unique distinction to become the first hospital in Mumbai to be four times and the second hospital in the country to be JCI accredited for the fourth time in a row.
The Joint Commission is a US-based non-profit organization. It accredits more than 20,000 healthcare organizations in the US. The JCI was set up in 1997 as an affiliate of The Joint Commission. The JCI grants accreditation to healthcare facilities in more than 60 countries after a rigorous evaluation of several parameters, including the quality of patient-care and patient-safety. The JCI accreditation is widely considered as a “seal of approval” by medical travelers seeking quality healthcare services. A JCI accreditation is valid for three years, following which the facility is reassessed. The recently revised JCI standards and more stringent and demanding compared to the previous editions.
JCI is a part of JCAHO, a non-profit organization that grants accreditations for quality standards, best practices and patient safety. The application process is voluntary, which therefore indicates the commitment of the organization to create an environment to be assessed.
Says Dr. S Narayani, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, “We are pleased ranked amongst the highest echelons of healthcare providers in this part of the world. This accreditation will add more value to and will further enhance the confidence of our outcomes of patients care, quality, safety, treatment and services. The assessors were very appreciative of the energy and enthusiasm of our staff and did not stop from complimenting the team for their involvement. The outcome of the survey was equally gratifying as there were 20 partial compliances and not a single non-compliance evidenced.”
JCI identifies, measures, and shares best practices in quality and patient safety with the world. It provides leadership and innovative solutions to help health care organizations across all settings improve performance and outcomes. Its expert team works with hospitals and other health care organizations, health systems, government ministries, public health agencies, academic institutions, and businesses across the globe to achieve peak performance in patient care.
Accreditation is an effective quality assurance tool for any healthcare organizations. The JCI accreditation reflects the hospital’s commitment towards improving the safety and quality of patient care by continually working to reduce risks.
