Press Release: June 09, 2020
A spirit producer from Lincolnshire UK has launched the first ‘gin with a cause’ in the UK, raising money for the LGBTQ charity Stonewall UK to continue the fight for acceptance, equality and coinciding with the annual pride month celebrations.
The range of Stonewall Gins is dedicated to remembering the 1969 Stonewall Riots. The events in Greenwich Village New York sparked riots on the streets of the USA that brought about a change in LGBTQ rights laws in many countries around the world.
Joe Wilson from Spirit of Stonewall commented ‘As a young gay man I was interested to re discover the story of the riots and how they helped improve the freedoms and acceptance that I experience today. The family business wanted to help the Stonewall UK charity with their work and it seemed a natural thing to launch an extra special range of gins”.
The gins are available in standard 70cl bottles and include an extra smooth London Dry and a fruity but not too sweet Pink Rhubarb. £1 from every bottle sold goes to the Stonewall UK charity. We pride ourselves on our non rainbow capitalism by supporting Stonewall UK all year round not just in the Pride period.
CEO Richard Longworth commented ‘Joe came with the idea of giving something back to LGBTQ charities so we developed a recipe that we thought was tasty and very special, we sampled it to customers and so far it’s proven really popular. We were especially proud to be one of the first mainstream LGBTQ products on the market as well as one of the first ‘gins with a cause’.
Stonewall London Dry gin is extra smooth and therefore easy to drink with citrus and liquorice notes. The London Dry is ideally drunk as a classic gin and tonic and ideally with chunky ice in a Copa glass, a small slice of lime, and either a good quality Indian or slightly sweeter (if preferred) the Mediterranean.
