CorrosionRADAR and Bureau Veritas alliance offers a predictive corrosion monitoring solution in the Middle East

Press Release: June 02, 2021

CorrosionRADAR Ltd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bureau Veritas in the Middle East to deliver an integrated solution that helps oil and gas companies manage Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI). Global leaders in test, inspection and certification, Bureau Veritas (BV) is the first organisation in the region to integrate the CorrosionRADAR® predictive corrosion monitoring system with its Opex solutions portfolio.

The unique collaboration which captures the expertise of both organisations and delivers a quality controlled end-to-end solution for asset integrity management, signals new momentum in the Middle East to adopt digitalisation to solve the challenges presented by CUI. It comes at a time when industry confidence and investment in digital systems for risk-based inspection (RBI) is accelerating and an accurate and reliable data-driven response for CUI management is achievable.

The automated solution combines real-time field data and predictive analytics generated via CorrosionRADAR’s wireless sensing waveguides under the asset insulation, with Bureau Veritas field experience, quality assurance, integrity and risk-based inspection expertise to save costs through prioritising of maintenance activities, repair and rehabilitation schedules. For operators, this means informed decision making, optimised inspection and maintenance programmes, safer and more reliable operations with decreased risk, and more production uptime. The integrated solution is equally suitable for existing brownfield plants and incorporation in new greenfield build.

Andrea Di Lillo, OPEX Oil and Gas Global Business Development Director at Bureau Veritas said:
‘In accordance with our strategic Opex vision, we welcome this regional collaboration with CorrosionRADAR as we strengthen our asset integrity management portfolio further to digitally address the critical and expensive CUI.’’

Sofien Masmoudi, Vice President for Oil, Gas and Chemical at Bureau Veritas added: ‘‘It allows us to expand the RBI experience through a dynamic approach that bridges the gap between current quantitative and qualitative risk management, creating predictive, data-driven inspection and maintenance programmes – adding value for our clients and establishing a route to safer, smarter and more reliable operations.’’

Chiraz Ennaceur, Chief Executive of CorrosionRADAR said: ‘‘There is no doubt that successful management of CUI will rely on digitalisation of predictive monitoring and assessment. Working alongside Bureau Veritas, we can integrate our technology into their Opex services portfolio and provide even greater support in the region with a sustainable solution to identify corrosion failure mechanisms at the earliest possible stage and allow operators to take quicker and more precise action, saving costs and increasing performance and safety.’’

CorrosionRADAR is planning a series of online discussions and workshops for companies in the Middle East who are interested in learning more about digital collaborations for combatting CUI. Please contact James Rosenshine, Head of Business Development, CorrosionRADAR, if you would like to join an event.

About CorrosionRADAR
CorrosionRADAR is recognised internationally for its technology, research and development focused on monitoring and predictive solutions to address problems with corrosion. The company has worked with asset management teams all over the world and fully understands the impact of Predictive Corrosion Monitoring to improve outcomes associated with safety, asset availability and operational expenditure.

A spin-out from Cranfield University (UK), CorrosionRADAR was founded in 2017 by Dr Chiraz Ennaceur, Dr Prafull Sharma and Dr Mehrdad Silatani to integrate novel Electro-Magnetic Guided Radar (EMGR) sensing technology* into a trusted product range that would allow the industry to continuously monitor and accurately predict Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI).

The CorrosionRADAR team combined the patented EMGR technology with predictive analytics in an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) network to create the world’s longest-range predictive corrosion monitoring solution suitable for any asset across the oil and gas, power and utilities, industrial manufacturing, renewable and civil infrastructure sectors.

Attracting significant investment along the way, CorrosionRADAR’s technology is now installed in plants across the globe, where its systems are fast-tracking the move from manual inspection to automated monitoring, and from reactive to predictive corrosion management.

In 2021, CorrosionRADAR received the prestigious Materials Performance (MP) / Association for Materials Protection and Performance (formerly NACE) Corrosion Innovation of the Year Award for its ground-breaking developments.
