Central London holds its first drone race as the sport of the future emerges from the underground.

Press Release: October 07, 2015

fpvleague.co.uk is holding the first drone race in Central London on the 18th of October. Pilots will be racing at speeds in excess of sixty miles per hour for the chance to qualify for next year's national championships.

Drone Racing is a futuristic sport where competitors fly camera equipped multirotors that broadcast a drone’s eye perspective back the pilots video goggles. This style of flying is known as FPV after the first person view that the technology enables.

It’s so immersive pilots can forget that it’s their radio controlled aircraft that's flying and they are stood on solid ground. The action has been compared to the pod racing scenes from Star Wars. This is Formula 1 re-invented for the Playstation generation.

Racing has been happening informally since 2013 but it’s only this year that organised races such as the US and UK Drone Nationals. fpvleague.co.uk has already held two race meetings this year and is at the forefront of developing the sport in the UK. Winners from these events have gone on to compete in the UK drone nationals. Previous coverage of FPVleague races are has been in the Financial Times, Ars Technica and The Verge.
