Press Release: March 02, 2010
UK car insurance provider Norwich Union has admitted that it has been forced to increase premiums across the board for its customers by around £60 a year.
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has also commented that they are discovering a growing number of UK motorists telling fibs in order to obtain cheaper car insurance premiums. Methods such as fronting are commonly used to allow a young newly qualified driver to enjoy a cheaper car insurance deal. However, this is illegal and both drivers involved are liable for prosecution in this situation.
ABI director of general insurance, Nick Starling, said: "Honesty is the only policy. Cheating to get cheaper insurance puts your cover in jeopardy, with potentially disastrous consequences.
"Being truthful and shopping around will mean that your insurance delivers when you need it and that you get the best possible deal."
UK car insurance companies are now improving their investigation teams in order to thoroughly research each and every claim that comes through the call centres. The Innovation Group suggests that a third of all claims made in the UK are thrown out by insurers as a result of further investigation.
