Press Release: February 03, 2010
The growth in the number of apprenticeships taken and completed over the course of 2009 shows that many businesses are starting to understand and realise their true value according to Perspective, a leading authority on training monitoring and distributed learning.
Provisional data published by the department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) showed that in the first three months of the 2009/10 academic year, an extra 2,700 people completed their advanced apprenticeship compared to the same time in 2008/09, an increase of a third. The increase is consistent with the governments plans to create a developing technician class as part of the Skills for Growth scheme.
Perspective has indicated that this growth is extremely positive for the UK economy as it emerges from recession, and that the figures prove that businesses are starting to see the benefits of employing apprentices as part of their recruitment strategy. The variety of courses available for prospective learners is creating more outlets and opportunities for the exposure of youth talent explains Paul Davis, Managing Director of Perspective:
The increase in the number of apprenticeships completed last year will be a massive boost to those businesses looking to use our emergence from recession as an opportunity for growth. It is imperative that there are trained workers available over the coming years to support this growth, and businesses are starting to realise that apprenticeships are one of the most efficient ways of acquiring a highly skilled technical workforce for the future.
