Pinsent Masons has improved its ranking in Stonewall’s ‘Workplace Equality Index’ for the third year in a row, being ranked 36th, up 14 places from 50th in 2009.
The index, which is in its sixth year, lists the top 100 gay-friendly employers across the UK. In 2008, Pinsent Masons became the first law firm to enter the index when it was also named as Most Improved Employer, following a year of initiatives aimed at supporting and promoting diversity across the firm. There are now four law firms in the index and Pinsent Masons has played a leading role in encouraging other law firms to improve approaches to diversity and to submit applications to Stonewall.
The firm’s Director of HR and Learning, Jonathan Bond, said, "We were delighted to be the first law firm to be recognised in the Workplace Equality Index in 2008 and we’re equally delighted to have improved our rankings in consecutive years against a backdrop of increased annual competition. This achievement reflects our contribution to the diversity debate in the legal sector and the importance we attach to our diversity agenda. ."
Stonewall is a charity that works to achieve equality and justice for lesbians, gay men and bisexual people. Employers included in the index are ranked according to criteria ranging from implementation of effective equality policies to practical demonstration of good practice in recruitment and mentoring and how they engage with lesbian and gay staff, customers and service users.
