‘Patient 2.0 – Beyond Consumer, Victim or Survivor – Navigating the healthcare maze’ Revealing systemic healthcare flaws and how to overcome them through technology-enhanced solutions
(July 24, 2020) – For anyone who’s had the terrible misfortune of experiencing a delayed diagnosis, misdiagnosis, malpractice, negligence or medical error, Dr Aswini Misro’s new book, Patient 2.0 – Beyond Consumer, Victim or Survivor – Navigating the Healthcare Maze, will bring you some much needed peace of mind.
Dr Aswini Misro is a UK trained vascular and general surgeon, endoscopist, futurist, entrepreneur and author. The book was originally launched on the 18th of March at the House of Commons.
The invaluable lessons from the book should act as a wake-up call to all policymakers and it calls for them to revise their healthcare system strategies.
With the world slowly waking up to the tremendous potential of clinical Artificial Intelligence in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, this book not only elaborates on the existing inefficiencies of the healthcare system but also provides the prospect of solving them with technology that is quick, accurate and delivers objective-based diagnoses.
“I believe this is only the tip of the iceberg and very little effort has gone into preparing patients on how best to navigate the healthcare system” says Dr Misro
A distinct but expected lack of patient knowledge combined with a flawed healthcare system, can mean a patient may end up paying exorbitant fees for their care. They can end up becoming a victim rather than a patient of the healthcare system.
This book aims to expose the multiple unscrupulous and unregulated ways this is happening within the healthcare system through real-life scenario examples. But the book also shares strategies on how these scenarios can be mitigated or avoided.
Among the many critical points raised, the book reveals cases of overtreatment and overuse of services such as non-clinical Caesarean Section in developed nations. Also known as ‘Caesarean Section of maternal request.’ Dr Misro suggests we should be looking at alternative solutions such as evidence-based medical approach, patient empowerment and legislative changes for healthcare.
“There is a massive need for a book like this due to the growing menace of delayed diagnosis, rising demand for quality healthcare and unsustainable elements in the healthcare practice,” says Dr Naim Kadoglou of Imperial College of Medicine, London.
Dr. Aswini Misro is also the Founder of YouDiagnose, a clinical artificial intelligence-based platform that can diagnose, plan treatment and triage patients, with the goal of humanising efforts to offer early cancer detection and affordable patient care to everyone, everywhere. The platform uses a hybrid diagnostic approach, which combines the best of human and artificial intelligence for a comprehensive and unmatched diagnosis service.
YouDiagnose has started a crowdfunding campaign to raise £1 million to carry out a 9 month pilot trial in key NHS trusts. Further details can be found at www.youdiagnose.online. Dr Misro has decided to dedicate his book to any donor(s) who donate £50,000 or more to the YouDiagnose crowdfunding campaign.
