Sumo, a gamified digital creative toolbox headquartered in Helsinki launches this week Wednesday, positioned to take on Adobe Creative Cloud and update archaic education systems worldwide. Sumo is the brainchild of chairman Lauri Koutaniemi, creator of Sumopaint.com, who makes it his life’s “goal to change education globally to be more fun and motivating for everyone” and co-founder and CEO Pasi Joronen, who views “creativity as a life skill for everyday use in solving any problem through action, that starts from a core belief in one’s own ability to create.”
According to Mr. Joronen, “educational systems sadly play a lethal role in one’s self-confidence in their creativity, and framing creativity as an artistic quality could not be more detrimental to development.” In addition to Sumopaint, the Sumo toolbox includes Sumotunes, Sumo3d, Sumocode, Sumophoto and Sumovideo, all of which are available with limited features for free, with pro licensing for personal use that include myriad extended features, and exclusive creative community and offline functionality for $9 per month.

Sumo is rapidly expanding its platform to create a sequestered educational platform and ready the program for schools to use globally in the coming fall term in urgent response to social distancing measures made necessary by Covid-19, though its necessity is timeless as knowledge-based education systems have become more obsolete in previous decades, and will become more so in coming years. As per Mr. Joronen, who was deeply inspired by Jack Ma’s ideas on the future of education, Sumo wants to create a framework through which to “measure creativity as a benchmark throughout each student’s educational track,”
“I’d hope to see a world where creativity is measured as a benchmark throughout each student’s educational track.” — Pasi Joronen, co-founder and CEO @ Sumo Apps Ltd.
Sumo expects rapid growth following its launch and are happy to discuss corporate licensing with any parties interested in having their teams realize their vision through fluid creative collaboration — no matter how cross-cultural or globally distributed.
