Need4skills Career Acceleration Survey – How to Get to the Top.

Posted 15th March 2010.

Being seen to be working late, first in last out and sucking up to the boss are some of the ways people mistakenly believe will bring them genuine career advancement according to a survey by professional work experience resource Need4skills.com.

Working non-contracted weekends and after hours were other ways people thought would help progress their career. Asked how these activities had helped them thus far; 88% said they had not received any benefit, 11% said they had a received a bonus or more freedom in their work and 1% said they were being considered or had received a promotion.

David Sinclair, founder of Need4skills.com said, When it comes to genuine career advancement and business the old axiom is still true; its not what you know, its who you know. I would encourage genuinely ambitious people to up-skill themselves, take professional work experience with other companies, volunteer and meet as many business people as possible.
