Tianjin International Design Week is delighted to announce its second edition which will take place from May 22nd to May 27th 2015.
Tianjin International Design Week’s main exhibition will be staged at Beining Park, a 8000 square meter newly restored creative park where Chinese tradition, modernity and contemporary design meet – reflecting the theme of this years edition.
Under the heading Memory and Dream proposed by renown Japanese designer and Head of the Tianjin International Design Week Organizing Committee, Masayuki Kurokawa, the design week aims to reflect on fundamental design dichotomies such as “Tradition and Modernity”, “Nature and Human Presence”, “Preservation and Development” which play a central role in contemporary China and beyond.
Tianjin International Design Week will welcome leading Chinese and foreign design participations through large scale exhibitions, talks and an ambitious education programme connecting Chinese and foreign designers to reflect on past collective MEMORY and future DREAM for sustainable cities in China and beyond.
Leading design figures such as Chinese designer Song Tao, Japanese designer Masayuki Kurokowa and Italian designer Paolo Colantuoni are part of the Organizing Committee and have a strong presence in the shows. Highlights of the Design Week includes participation from Golden Compass Award winning designer Matteo Ragni and exhibitions “Matteo Ragni: Design for Better Days” “Poly Retrospective Art Design Exhibition”, “Works of Miao Xiaochun”, “The Creative Worlds of Alessi “, “ICONS”, “The Taste of Italy”, “Traditional Crafts Design Exhibition”, amongst others bringing the multi faceted role of design in daily life. Furthermore ITA, the Italian Trade Association, with the Chamber of Architects of Rome will present a two day architecture and design conference on the 23rd and 24th of May with eminent Chinese and Italian architects and designers. Coinciding with the Chinese participation at the Milan International Expo – food design and food tradition in both Memory and Dream will receive special attention throughout the programme.
During Tianjin Design Week a themed education programme with a focus on the protection and use of historic architecture will be held in partnership with the Sino Italian Inter-university Consortium (CISI), University of Naples Federico II, Tianjin University School of Architecture, Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts, Nankai University, Tianjin East Training School to nurture and train new young design talents to value heritage, tradition and craftmanship in the contemporary context.
A design competition will accompany the activities of the 2015 edition design week with the eponymous title “Memory and Dream” a prestigious international judge panel including the design director of TAG Heuer Christoph Behling will select young talent to be showcased during the week long event.
