HTC Smart New Low-cost Smartphone Announced this Week
The HTC Smart is an entry-level smartphone device which is designed to encourage mobile phone consumers to switch from feature phones to smartphones without the high cost and confusion of many of the latest handsets on the market.
It appears that the HTC Smart is to be released on both pay-monthly and pay-as-you-go tariffs, with options tailored to all types of consumers.
Matthew Key, chief executive of Telefonica, said at the launch: We believe this is a key move in our ability to bring smartphones to a far wider cross section of the population. The benefits of web browsing on the move and ability to experience applications like mobile social networking will now be brought to the mass market and reinforces O2’s position as the home of the smartphone.
With the aim of attracting both youngsters and older mobile phone users to the smartphone market, the HTC Smart will tick a number of boxes for low-budget consumers.
Jon French, HTC executive director for UK & Ireland added: It will give a good quality browsing experience to young people. For O2 that will be sticky for their brand. The reason with gone for an exclusive deal with an operator is that it’s a new segment of the market and we need help reaching it.
Smartphones are just as compatible as feature phones with mobile phone accessories, with the ability to synchronise calls, data and more via Bluetooth products.
