Among the unwanted phone calls that disturb the UK every day, those with the purpose of stealing the victim’s money are increasing: the so-called ping calls. These phone calls mostly come from foreign numbers, in particular from Africa, Albania, Papua New Guinea or Belgium. In the case of the fraud is carried out, the credit of the deceived will be reset.
But how does it work?
The caller usually makes a phone call using an international number and hangs up after a few seconds; whoever receives the call, might think that the line has fallen or, if the person does not answer on time, would find an unanswered call on his mobile phone.
The purpose of a ping call is to mislead the potential victim to dial back, and in this way, the real scam will be activated. The telephone credit of the victim will be indeed deducted in a few seconds, through the activation of expensive subscriptions.
Users of www.tellows.co.uk report new numbers every day, pointing out that it is possible to receive different spam calls within a few hours, even from different numbers. Thanks to these reports, all members of the community can check the reliability of a number in real time before recalling it.
