Hometown Guardians Announced it’s mission Saturday to raise public support for our nation’s police. The South Florida based company, founded by veteran police detective Rob Janzer, is dedicated to two fundamental principles. Honoring fallen police officers, and increasing public support of law enforcement nationwide.
Hometown Guardians sells it’s own brand of police support products, apparel and thin blue line merchandise nationwide. The company sells to law enforcement and the general public through their corporate website: www.hometownguardians.com. “The sales of our pro-police products, and the feedback we’ve received during the launch of our organization have greatly exceeded my expectations,” said Janzer. “We’ve received orders from customers in 43 states, including Alaska and Hawaii. We have had overwhelming support from both law enforcement and civilians alike,” continued Janzer. “As a result, we have been able to make meaningful donations to Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, Wounded Warrior Project, and Toys for Tots.”
“C.O.P.S. appreciates the support of Hometown Guardians through the sales from their thin blue line products,” said Dianne Bernhard – Executive Director of C.O.P.S., a charitable organization based in Camdenton, MO that offers support nationwide to family and survivors of police officers, who were killed in the line of duty. “Their mission,” continued Bernhard, “to strengthen the bonds between police and their communities is a step in the right direction in preventing violence against law enforcement and line-of-duty deaths. On behalf of all of America’s surviving families and co-workers, thank you to Hometown Guardians.”
Hometown Guardians was formed in the wake of anti-police movements across the country. The nation has since seen an increase in violence, mass shootings and attacks on police officers. Last year the U.S. experienced civil unrest in several cities including Fergeson, MO and Baltimore, MD. The focus of the riots was aimed at law enforcement, despite the fact that the suspects in each of the cases had died as a result of resisting or physically attacking the officers involved.
2016 has presented an even greater increase in attacks on police. On January 17th of this year the nation lost police officers in Salt Lake City, UT and Danville, OH. Ofc. Doug Barney, who was an 18 year veteran of the Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake and father of three was shot and killed in a police foot chase. Just hours later across the country, Ofc. Tom Cattrell with the Village of Danville Police Department was shot and killed by a suspect in an ambush-style attack. Since the murders of Officers Barney and Cattrell, seven more officers have been killed in the line of duty by gunfire, and countless more have been seriously injured from attacks on their lives.
“In light of the current assault on police officers throughout the U.S., It’s important for us as a nation to show solidarity and support for our men and women in law enforcement,” said Jeff Marano, President of the Broward County Police Benevolent Association based in Ft. Lauderdale. “I think that Hometown Guardians has taken a step in the right direction toward promoting this support, while honoring fallen officers and giving back to the law enforcement community.”
“I’d be lying if I said our cause hasn’t sparked controversy,” said Janzer. “We’ve had a few negative posts on our Facebook page. One of which was from a person claiming to be a Sovereign Citizen. Another was a cartoon ‘emoji’ of an officer with a gun pointed at his head accompanied by profanities. Those postings have since been removed, and the people who posted them have been reported to authorities and blocked from our page. I’ve been in law enforcement long enough to know that there is and always will be a small percentage of our society that will never like the police. Our goal is to reduce that percentage. If we are to accomplish this, it’s absolutely paramount that we focus our efforts on our nation’s youth. We need to instill accountability in our children instead of teaching them to assign blame elsewhere. This needs to begin with parenting, and be reinforced in schools, sports programs and the community.”
