Despite government action towards green home improvements in 2009, more effort and incentives are needed to ensure home owners continue to carry out green home improvements according to Ratedpeople.com, the UKs largest match making service for home improvers and recommended tradesmen.

Although many home owners are aware of benefits such as the long term savings they can make on bills and monthly payments from adopting a more eco-friendly home, Ratedpeople.com has indicated that more effort must be made to incorporate incentives into a wider range of eco-friendly improvements in order to maximise the environmental benefits of such technology on a mass level.

Andrew Skipwith CEO of Ratedpeople.com said: The popularity of the boiler scrappage scheme pioneered by the government is a testament in itself to how positively home owners react to environmentally friendly home improvements when given a financial incentive. As such, the government should look at how else they can supply incentives to consumers so that the money pumped into researching eco-friendly technology is not wasted through lack of uptake from the public.

Green home improvements can be carried out across a number of areas of the home, from energy efficient flooring and insulation to the use of low VOC paints which are much healthier for both individuals and the environment. As such, there are a range of benefits home owners could achieve both inside and outside a home if such changes are adopted.

Ratedpeople.com helps home improvers find recommended tradesmen quickly and easily. You can choose from 24 different trades and find tradesmen such as recommended heating engineers, local painters and floor fitters.

Every month, Ratedpeople.com manages over £30m in home improvement projects with more than 1,000 tradesmen signing up, making it the UKs largest match making service for home improvers and recommended tradesmen.
