The Labour leadership election has seen an explosion of grass roots activism take place over the last 48 hours. Party members from all sides of the party disillusioned with the choice of career politicians as candidates have taken to the internet in their thousands to voice their discontent and campaign for former DPP Sir Keir Starmer to throw his hat into the ring.
Party Members took to facebook, twitter and started a petition on Change.org in an attempt to persuade Sir Keir to stand for leader. The facebook group Sir Keir Starmer MP ~ Leadership Group attracted in excess of 1200 members in 48 hours and is growing by the hour. Twitter has been rocked by storms with the hashtag #keirforleader and the petition https://www.change.org/p/sir-keir-starmer-kcb-qc-run-for-leader-of-the-labour-party has over 500 signatures.
Although Sir Keir himself tweeted this morning that although flattered by the support he himself believes someone with more political experience is needed. However grass root party members think otherwise and see him as the galvanizing force that can unite all factions of the party and that his real world experience as DPP would more than negate any political shortcomings.
