‘Fill the Hill’ Codden Hill charity challenge
A 24-hour endurance challenge on Codden Hill is being planned next month (11th June) for the ChemoHero charity by Devon resident Brian Hogg.
Codden Hill is a well known steep hill in North Devon.
The ‘Let’s Fill the Hill’ challenge will see Brian, from Bishop’s Tawton, alternately walk and cycle, up and down Codden Hill repeatedly for 24 hours.
Brian initially plans to cycle to the monument at the top of the hill, and then walk down to Bishop’s Tawton park – he will leave the park on the hour, every hour, and return back to the top of the hill.
The idea is for friends and supporters to join Brian for the final walk at 10am on 12th June, filling Codden Hill with people from throughout the area to raise funds and awareness for the charity.
ChemoHero is a North Devon based charity, originally set up to create a box of goodies for women undergoing chemotherapy cancer treatment. The boxes are filled with a combination of practical items to help combat the side effects of treatment, alongside some luxury items. ChemoHero have now started to help men with Prostate Cancer it the same way.
Brian said: “I’m doing this after seeing how devastating cancer can be. A former colleague of mine died from Breast Cancer and I’ve also seen Lisa, the founder of ChemoHero going through cancer for a second time.
“Lisa works tirelessly for the charity and is also an Ambassador for Coppafeel, an organisation to educate girls and young women on the risks and awareness of Breast Cancer.
“I like to push myself and have always wondered how many times I could do Codden Hill in a day – I thought this would be a good way to do it. My ambition is to Fill the Hill and I’d love local people to join me for the last leg of the trip to help me achieve this aim.”
Brian is also hosting a quiz and raffle at 7.30pm on Friday the 10th June at Bishops Tawton Village hall.
To get involved in the challenge and help Fill the Hill, participants are asked to meet at Bishops Tawton Park, Sanders Lane at 10am on Sunday 12th June. Alternatively people can sign up on the Facebook page for anytime on the Saturday.
