Ahead of International Youth Day 2020 on 12th August, equitysport is delighted to announce the launch of a brand new initiative to engage with young people passionate about the charity’s mission to advance equality, diversity and equal opportunity in global sport.
The newly-established Youth Engagement Panel has been designed to meet commitments from equitysport to encourage young people from across the world to help in the fight to make global sport fairer, more equitable and more inclusive for everyone.
The project will see the Youth Engagement Panel meeting with the equitysport Board of Trustees twice a year to advise on campaigns and projects, policy development and the overarching strategy of the charity to advance equality, diversity and equal opportunity in and through sport.
The five-strong panel will be selected by the equitysport trustees as part of a competition inviting young people between the ages of 15 and 24 to submit their ‘big idea’ to make sport fairer.
Tim Harper, Chief Executive for equitysport said:
“We want young people to have a central role in shaping the future of sport. Too often, the work of charities in sport and development can feel distant and removed from the lived experiences of young people around the world.”
“We hope that through the Youth Engagement Panel, we can give young people from every corner of the planet, whatever their background, gender, or socioeconomic status, a voice, make them feel more valued, and show them that they can make a difference and their views and ideas can have a positive impact.”
Five young people from across the world will be recruited for the inaugural Youth Engagement Panel. equitysport is working with regional partners to target young people who’s voices are rarely heard or represent under-served communities.
The ‘What’s Your Big Idea?’ competition will run until 20th August 2020, of which full details can be found HERE.
